Yvette Quirl
Ms. Yvette Quirl is a vivacious and effervescent friend of the Dallas Cochlear Implant Program. In January of 2004 she received a cochlear implant with Dr. Roland's help. Currently, Yvette is assisting the DCIP with the Dana Foundation grant. We caught up with her on a recent visit to the Aston Center and asked her a few questions.
What type of hearing loss do you have, Yvette?
I have been deaf in both ears since birth. I have nerve deafness in both ears.
What made you finally decide to get an implant?
I decided when I saw the deaf Miss America and saw how well she did after her implants.
What led you to Dr. Roland?
I saw Dr. Roland in the news when he did the cochlear implants on the fifteen month old twins.
How is your life now that you have an implant?
My life is better, but I still want to have the other side done. That is my next project! I am anxious and ready to get it done.
is there anything you'd like to tell someone who's considering an implant for themselves or a loved one?
Yes. Do it as soon as you can. It's Wonderful!!!
